The purpose of this website is to give those who are interested in my work an opportunity to see what I have done. I regularly update this site with new works.
I began my art career at age 50. I completed my first painting in November, 2007, and sold my first piece in March of 2009.
I paint to learn. Painting offers me an opportunity to learn new techniques, learn about the art of others, and to learn more about the world around me. My medium is primarily acrylics, and much of my work is based upon my own photographs. Most of my work to date has focused on technical development. I am now focused on composition and design. I find a certain beauty in the visible effects of time, such as the rusting of an old sign, or the erosion of an asphalt roadway. It helps remind me that change is the only constant, and that I need to stay focused on the present moment.
My hope is to create work that is beautiful and meaningful to others.
Jenny Honnert Abell has been a wonderful source of support and advice in helping me in my development as an artist.
My son, James Swearingen, created this site for me.
